Thats a big claim, but one were proud to back up with
our long record in the labor movement.
Were the union that pioneered the introduction
of employee involvement into the American labor movement. Were
the union that brought members unemployment insurance nine years
before the State of New York created such coverage. Were the
ones who created the Sidney Hillman Health Center in Rochester,
bringing free medical exams, low-cost prescriptions and free eye
exams and glasses to thousands. Were the union thats
negotiated long-term job security guarantees for thousands of members.
And, were in the front ranks of those seeking to organize
workers all across upstate New York to give them the decent wages,
benefits and protection that only a union can ensure.
The Joint Board is an umbrella labor organization
with 28 affiliated unions we call Locals. Were
the largest trade union in the state outside New York City. We represent
some 9,500 workers throughout Western, Central and Upstate New York
essentially all of the state except for New York City and
the Hudson Valley. No union has greater diversity than we do. We
represent workers from virtually every cultural, ethnic, racial
and religious background workers who came here from more
than 50 countries.
Our members work in hotels, laundries, restaurants,
casinos, factories and numerous other industries. The Joint Board
is part of the UNITE HERE international union, which represents
440,000 workers in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. A great union?
Absolutely.
I hope youll visit our web site frequently to
keep up-to-date about all the things were doing for our members
and our efforts to bring union protection to unorganized workers.
Best regards,

Gary Bonadonna
