Chatman Scholarship
Applications are now being taken for the Chatman Scholarship, worth
$20,000 for four years of study at Cornell University.
Joint Board director Gary Bonadonna noted that the scholarship's
$20,000 in financial aid "makes it one of the largest and most
prestigious labor scholarships in the country- and it's only open
to our Joint Board members."
Any Joint Board member who has a child graduating from high school
next year is eligible to apply, the director said.
The scholarship pays up to one-half the tuition for four full years
of study at Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor
Relations, or an equivalent amount to any of the university's other
programs. Cornell handles the screening and selection process.
The
scholarship honors Abraham "Abe" Chatman, who served as
Joint Board manager for 55 years, and who also helped organize the
former Buffalo Clothing Joint Board in 1932.
Forms are available from shop reps and from the financial office
in Rochester. They are also available on-line at www.uhrrjb.org.
Applications must be postmarked no later than January 2, 2008.
