TRA benefits okayed for Local 14-A

Significant new assistance has been obtained for nearly 800 Local
14-A members laid off by Xerox last year, Joint Board manager Leslie
H. Calder announced. The special help will include an extension
of unemployment benefits as well as potential job retraining through
the U. S. Trade Readjustment Act.
All Locals to get Reflections
Joint Board manager Leslie H. Calder announced that the entire
membership will now receive Reflections quarterly. The paper was
begun in January, 1983 as a way to communicate with just Local 14-A
members during tough contract talks with Xerox.
2nd Quarter 1988
Jorgensen, Saurini attend COPE Conference
Two Joint Board members recently received extensive training at
the 39th annual COPE Legislative Institute in Washington, D.C. They
are Anna Saurini, secretary of Local 204 at Hickey-Freeman, and
Alice Jorgensen, president of Local 388-G at Don Alleson Athletic
Wear in Geneva.

In an historic move, the Rochester Joint Board and the Western
New York Joint Board have merged, creating the largest labor organization
in upstate and western New York. The newly created Rochester Regional
Joint Board will bring nearly 8,300 active Amalgamated members and
some 10,000 retirees under one banner, according to Anthony Costanza,
who will serve as manager/director of the organization.

National clothing pact approved

A new national tailored clothing contract affecting some 1,500
Joint Board members in Rochester and Buffalo has been ratified,
Board director Gary Bonadonna announced. The three-year contract
provides improved wages, benefits, and working conditions, Bonadonna
noted. The affected Joint Board members work at Hickey-Freeman in
Rochester and at Intercontinental Branded Apparel, RHO Industries
and Perfection Pad, all in Buffalo.

HMX Tailored will do special orders

For the first time in its long history, the HMX Tailored plant
in Buffalo will begin making special orders, business rep Greg Laskowski
announced. Under the new program, customers will be able to go to
a clothier carrying HartMarx apparel, be measured, pick a fabric,
and a suit or sport coat style. That information will then be sent
to the HMX plant to be manufactured.
